A Weekend of Magic & Folklore Wellness at Ancient Lore Village

A Fairytale Hidden in the Hills

Nestled in the rolling hills of Knoxville, Tennessee, Ancient Lore Village feels like stepping into another realm — where time slows, fairytales come alive, and nature whispers wisdom. I recently spent the weekend here for my October Folklore Wellness series and what unfolded was more than just a getaway — it was a journey into the soul’s quiet magic.

Based on the book, “Bokee’s Trek: Outcasts to Inner Earth”, the Village was built upon fostering togetherness and unity by providing a place where differences are celebrated and peace and positivity are the focus. You can read more about the story behind Ancient Lore Village on their website here.

Arrival: Entering the Storybook

Driving up the winding road, I was greeted by stone cottages with whimsical names like “Bokee’s Bungalow” and “Leprechaun Lair.” Every corner of the property felt intentional — handcrafted details, lush gardens, and soft golden light that kissed the mountains.

It wasn’t just a resort; it was a living storybook inviting visitors to remember wonder. The gentle stillness in the air seemed to say: “you’ve arrived where stories begin.”

Archery, Axe Throwing & the Art of Release

The next morning began with Archery and Axe Throwing taught by Jonathan — a lively and patient instructor who made the entire experience feel both grounding and playful. It took me a few tries (and a few deep breaths) before I finally landed a decent shot.

Each throw, each release, became symbolic — letting go of what no longer served me, focusing my energy, and trusting my aim. The echo of arrows landing against the board was oddly meditative, a physical reminder that strength and grace can coexist.

The Fairy-Guided Tour: Circular Wisdom

Afterwards came one of the most enchanting experiences: a Fairy Guided Tour led by Haden, also known as Helea, our fairy guide. She walked us through the Village, explaining how its circular architecture was designed to usher in connectivity — from the circular lighting fixtures to the patterns in the flooring.

She shared how the circular geometry was inspired by nature — the way trees, mushrooms, and the moon reflect the eternal cycles of growth and renewal.

The Village’s motto, “Disconnect to reconnect,” echoed deeply. The owner’s vision was to create a gathering space where division didn’t exist — only unity.

Every design element seemed to remind visitors that everything is connected.

Folklore Wellness in Real Life

Ancient Lore Village truly embodies what I call Folklore Wellness. There’s a storytelling area that invites guests to gather and share tales beneath twinkling lights, while the smoke curling from the fireplace seems to call you closer — an invitation to warmth, laughter, and exchange.

Even the simplest moments, like walking by the crackling fire or listening to the rustle of leaves, felt like a gentle reminder that stories live everywhere — even in the silence.

Seasonal Magic & Craftsmanship

Beyond its daily offerings, Ancient Lore Village also hosts seasonal classes on medicinal teas, flower pressing, and creative nature-based crafts. These experiences bridge the old and new — where fairytales meet the forest and wellness finds its roots in ancient practices.

It’s a sanctuary for anyone seeking to slow down, ground themselves, and rediscover the magic woven into everyday life. You can find more details about their classes and workshops on their calendar here.

Reflection: Finding Magic Within Reality

As I packed up to leave, I realized that wellness isn’t about escaping reality — it’s about finding magic within it.

Ancient Lore Village reminded me that self-care is not a retreat from life but a return to it — softer, more aware, and more connected. The circular paths, the shared laughter, the crackle of the fire — all became mirrors of wholeness, reflecting the beauty of simply being present.

Here, in this village where fairytales meet the forest, I rediscovered that the truest self-care comes from living your story in harmony with the world around you. 🍂✨
